Ant Law Quintet
Sunday 24th May 2015, 8 p.m. - 10:30 p.m.

A first time visit to SMJ by guitarist Ant Law. He comes with a formidable reputation in the guitar fraternity for technique and innovation and has gained some impressive reviews from the jazz world press for his two quintet albums ‘Entanglement’ and the later ‘Zero Sum World’; both of which will be dipped into during this concert, along with a standard or two. Educated at Edinburgh University, Ant then went on to Berklee College and has worked in London since 2008, supplementing his jazz experience with theatre and pop music session work. His quintet includes some of the finest younger generation jazz musicians. Three are well known to our audience. Ivo Neame (Phronesis, Marius Neset, Jim Hart and his own band), Matt Ridley (his own quintet recently scored with the MJQ Celebration), Dave Hamblett (Abram Wilson, Jean Toussaint). We are also pleased to welcome saxophonist Michael Chillingworth for the first time to the club. He lives and works in the London scene including Stan Sulzmann and Richard Turner and his own septet
