JAZZ PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION - WILLIAM ELLIS

in the Richmond Suite (Saturday and Sunday)

An exhibition of portraits from William’s current “ONE LP” project

Portraits by William of musicians and personalities from the world of jazz and other music genres, each one pictured with the Vinyl (or CD) recording dearest to the heart of the sitter. Every portrait is accompanied by a few personal words of explanation as to the reasons behind the choice.

William is giving an illustrated talk on the project on Sunday at 1.15 pm

JAZZ ART EXHIBITION

in Osborne 3 Suite

A collection of jazz inspired paintings - some for sale - by Northern based artists Eric Appleton, Gordon Humphreys and John Zehentner

Includes a series of originals chosen and used for the front covers of some of Jazz on a Winter’s Weekend printed programmes. A John Zehentner abstract ‘Jazzimprov’ is on the cover of the 2012 programme.

DR IAN DARRINGTON ‘ON THE RECORD’

Musician, inspirational teacher, big band leader and Wigan Jazz Festival Director Dr Ian Darrington MBE was closely involved in all aspects of the arranging, recording and production of the debut CD ‘On Song’ by young vocalist and saxophonist AJ Brown who first came to his attention when he joined the Wigan Youth Jazz Orchestra. AJ has since graduated  from Leeds College of Music jazz course, formed his own quartet and embarked on a professional career which shows much promise. Ian will explain the fascinating process involved from choosing the tunes onwards.

AJ Brown will be giving a short performance in the Chatsworth Lounge on Saturday at 5.30 pm.

WILLIAM ELLIS 'ONE LP'

We all have favourite albums of course - those records that stand out from all the others.  William is giving a presentation on his exciting 'One LP' project , which is a collection of portraits of people frommany differentspheres of the music world, along with each one’s favourite album and words about why the recording is so special to them - giving a fascinating insight into their influences and musical lives.

Among those photographed are Guy Barker, Alan Barnes, Liane Carroll, Jack Bruce, Al Jarreau, Soweto Kinch, jazz writer Jack Massarik, Christian Scott, Mike Stern, Stan and Clark Tracey and photographer Terry O'Neill.
