Three of the Northern jazz scene’s brightest stars give the first day of the festival a boost with some of their own style and choice of music. Dan & Gavin are members of the European Union Quintet. Gavin also leads and records with his own band and Dave is one of the most sought after drummers in the region. Chill out to some brilliant piano jazz. SMJ Director Frank Garner ‘puts on his other hat’ (or should we say white tux and red carnation) to tinkle the ivories for dinner guests. Those from the Southport area will know that Frank’s cocktail style piano has been well received in bars and lounges around these parts (including The Royal Clifton Hotel) for over 30 years.
